UML seeks swift action against ministries, agencies delaying post-quake reconstruction

Kathmandu, February 13

The main opposition CPN-UML has demanded swift action against ministries and other agencies that are not cooperating with post-quake reconstruction work.

At Monday’s meeting of the directive committee of National Reconstruction Authority, NRA chief executive officer Govinda Pokharel said tasks that fall under jurisdiction of government ministries have not moved ahead.

Subsequently, UML Vice-chair Bhim Rawal demanded action against line ministries and other relevant agencies that are not following the directives that the committee had issued at the end of its meeting held two months ago.

The government took action against then NRA CEO Sushil Gewali, Rawal pointed, demanding to know why the same government is not taking action against ministries that have failed to discharge their duties.

At its meeting held two month ago, the committee had directed ministries of urban development, education, tourism, local development, physical infrastructure and transport to expedite their works related to post-quake reconstruction.

For his part, Prime Minister and committee chair Prachanda said his government is committed to speeding up post-quake reconstruction work.
