Federal Alliance calls off strike in Madhesh

Kathmandu, May 31

The Federal Alliance, a coalition of Madhesh, Tharuhat and Limbuwan-based parties, have called off the strike it was going to organise on Thursday.

Manish Suman of Rastriya Janata Party, one of the key allies of the coalition, informed that the FA’s protests scheduled for June 1-3 have been called off. The alliance was preparing to organise a  torch rally on Wednesday afternoon and enforce a strike in the Madhes-Thaurhat-Limbuwan region from Thursday.

However, the RJP still remain non-committal on the contesting the elections. It has been demanding that a conducive environment be created for it to take part in polls. The government rescheduled the second round of voting, which was to take place on June 14, to address the demands of the Morcha.
