Nepal PM’s aide asks disgruntled leaders to shun hunger strike for sake of health, come for talks

Kathmandu, June 13

Bishnu Rimal, political adviser to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, on Monday asked disgruntled political parties staging a stir to press for the fulfillment of their demands to accept the government’s invitation for talks.

He asked the leaders to sit for negotiations by responding to PM Oli’s invitation for talks instead of ruining their health by continuing with their hunger strike.

Rimal said at a face-to-face that the Reporters’ Club Nepal had organised on Monday: Prime Minister’s invitation for talks is real. The government is taking initiatives to clear misunderstanding through talks with agitating parties. We called an all-party meeting with hope to resolve issues through a common platform, but disgruntled parties did not respond. They do not respond to invitations for talks, leaving us with no choice but to hand over talks invites wherever we see them.

He said: Government has already fulfilled some of the Morcha (United Democratic Madheshi Front or Madheshi Morcha’s demands). Still, we are open on issues like citizenship, proportionate-inclusion and provincial demarcation. We are ready for discussions on these issues.

The government has already compensated people injured during Madhesh movements and provided compensation to those, who died in course of the movements, Rimal informed. He said: We are sensitive towards their demands and we are saying: Let’s hold case-wise discussion on these issues.

Describing Upendra Yadav of the Federal Socialist Forum as the product of a massive movement, Rimal advised Yadav not to ruin his health by staging a hunger strike. He asked Yadav to sort out the issues through talks with the government.
