Government-sponsored Charter Amendment Bill will serve no purpose, says Upendra Yadav

Kathmandu, January 26

In the eyes of Upendra Yadav, president, Federal Socialist Forum Nepal, the government-sponsored Constitution Amendment Bill is useless.

Yadav, speaking at a face-to-face that Reporters’ Club Nepal organised on Thursday, Yadav, who is also coordinator of the Federal Alliance, said: The Amendment Bill is of no use. Even if the Bill sails through the Parliament, it will not be able to solve problems.

At the programme, Yadav said the report of the Local Level Restructuring Commission is unacceptable. He pointed: As per the report, there will be only 25 per cent local bodies in Terai-Madhesh, which is home to 52 per cent of Nepal’s population. This is not just. The report has not recommended formation of protected regions, special regions and autonomous regions? How do you conduct polls in such a context?

Yadav stressed that political parties should understand each other’s problems and be able to end the political crises. The main opposition CPN-UML should not come in the way of Constitution amendment as it will give the country a way out of the crises.

He said: The government and major parties are confused on whether to conduct local bodies’ elections or local level elections.
