UDMF turns down PM’s offer, not to let elections take place

Kathmandu, February 28

United Democratic Madheshi Front has rejected Prime Minister Prachanda’s proposal on amending the Constitution only after conducting local level elections.

At Tuesday’s talks, PM Prachanda had appealed  UDMF to go for elections, pointing that passing the Constitution amendment proposal through the House will take pretty long.

A subsequent UDMF meeting pointed that the front will not take part in elections before Constitution amendment. Manish Suman, general secretary of UDMF constituent Sadbhavana Party, said: We will make it clear to Prime Minister Prachanda tomorrow that we will neither take part in elections nor will we let elections take place.

At the same time, UDMF has decided to take initiatives in a bid to ensure two-third majority in the House required for amending the Constitution.
