Saptari killings doing of three big parties: Upendra Yadav

Bhaktapur, March 8

Upendra Yadav, president of the Federal Socialist Forum, on Wednesday accused three major political parties — the Nepali Congress, CPN-UML and the CPN-Maoist Centre — of orchestrating the Saptari killings as part of a premeditated plan. He said the incident was the doing of Prime Minister (who represents the Centre), Home Minister (who represents the Congress), and CPN-UML leaders.

Speaking at a programme at Rafat Sanchar Club, Yadav said the UML was trying to shift focus from the killings by pointing at ‘attempts’ to assassinate its top leaders. In a democracy, the UML can organise mass gatherings and other parties can protest the same, he said, adding that the selective shooting of UDMF cadres on their heads shows that the incident was premeditated.

He pointed that this government no longer enjoys majority support. Notably, UDMF has put forth a five-point charter of demands and given the government seven days to fulfil it, threatening to withdraw its support otherwise.

At the same time, Yadav made it clear that holding local level elections on schedule — May 14 — is impossible. He said there will be no peace in the country without rectification of ‘mistakes’ in the Constitution.
