Kathmandu, May 3

With the start of the budget session in the Parliament, Nepali Congress, the main opposition, has called its lawmakers to raise voices against the KP Oli government in the House, stating that the government has failed completely when it comes to undertaking post-quake reconstruction work and resolving the Madhesh crisis.

The main opposition issued this directive at the end of the two-day meeting of its Parliamentary Party. PP leader and NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba pointed that quake victims’ problems remain unresolved even a year after the disaster. The budget allocated for post-quake reconstruction has not been utilised, he said. Deuba directed NC lawmakers to raise these issues in the House.

The government has not taken initiatives to reach an understanding with Madheshi parties by holding talks on redrawing of provincial boundaries, the NC chief said, adding: This has hindered the implementation of the constitution. Even ruling coalition partners are dissatisfied with the performance of this government, lawmaker Mahesh Acharya quoted Deuba as saying. The main opposition should take this as a weapon to attack this government, Acharya quoted Deuba.

At the meeting, lawmakers stressed the need to topple the Oli government without giving it the opportunity to present annual budget for the fiscal 2073-74, pointing that the government is preparing to present the budget in about three weeks. They said the NC leader should explore an alternative to this government by initiating talks with the UCPN-Maoist.
