Kathmandu, September 11

At the zero hour in the Parliament on Sunday, lawmakers pointed that earthquake victims have been finding it hard to get relief assistance, including grants.

They claimed that the list of beneficiaries has failed to include quake victims in several cases and demand early distribution of relief to these people. In the same breath, the lawmakers also called for early resolution of the problem of landlessness.

Around 40 per cent of quake victims from districts like Dhading, Nuwakot, Sindhuli and Sindhupalchok have failed to make it to the list of quake victims, they claimed, urging the government to provide them the first installment of grants without delay by including their names on the list.

They also pointed that expansion of the Mugling-Narayangadh road is causing hardships to people (by triggering landslides), urging the government to solve the problem at the earliest, keeping in mind festivals that are round the corner.

They also demanded compensation for people, who have lost their land in the expansion of Shuklafanta Wildlife Reserve. The lawmakers also drew the government’s attention towards delay in the expansion of the Galchhi-Rasuwa road section.

Kripa Ram Rana, Krishna Prasad Poudel, Ganesh Pahadi, Gita Wagle, Guru Prasad Burlakoti, Chandra Kanta Bhandari, Chudamani BK Jangali, Janardhan Dhakal, Juth Bahadur Khadgi, Tara Man Gurung and Tulsa Rana, among others, spoke during zero hour.
