NC seeks action against DPMs Kamal Thapa, Chitra KC for violating Nepal’s constitution

Kathmandu, June 30

The main opposition Nepali Congress has urged Prime Minister KP Sharma to clarify why the government is doing nothing even when senior Cabinet ministers are indulging in activities that are against the letter and the spirit of the constitution.

NC lawmakers made this remark at Thursday’s meeting of the Legislature-Parliament. Earlier at the meeting, PM Oli responded to the main opposition’s concerns about delays in post-quake reconstruction work and in the distribution of relief to quake victims.

At the meeting, NC whip Ishwori Neupane accused the government of keeping mum even when Deputy Prime Ministers Kamal Thapa and Chitra Bahadur KC were acting against the constitution, federalism and the republic. Neupane demanded to know why the government was maintaining silence despite this constitutional breach.

She expressed doubts over implementation of the constitution as deputy prime ministers themselves were busy opposing it.

At the meeting, Anuradha Thapa Magar, lawmaker from the Nepal Workers’ and Peasants’ Party, accused manpower companies of selling young people in the name of foreign employment. Magar urged the government to take proprietors of such agencies to court.

Floods and landslides have caused loss of life and property in different parts of the country, lawmakers said, asking the government to focus on rescue of the victims and relief distribution.
