Natural disasters killed 271 people in five months across Nepal

A total of 271 people died in various natural disasters in Nepal since mid-April, informs the government.

The Nepal Police Headquarters says the disasters left 646 injured and 767 displaced since the Bikram Samvat New Year this year (April 14).

A total of 1,063 livestock were also killed in these incidents. The national police organisation says 4,607 houses were submerged in this period. In various parts of the country, 15 bridges and 74 government offices sustained damaged. Police have estimated that the loss amount to  Rs 2.425 billion in total.

Meanwhile, Nepal Police co-spokesperson Umesh Raj Joshi says total 16,000 police personnel were mobilised in post-disaster rescue and relief efforts. Nepal Police has a dedicated disaster management division to respond to immediate needs after any disaster.
