Mountainous districts of Nepal would begin their school year in February, almost two months earlier than the schools in other districts of the country, in the past years.

However, the districts are beginning the new academic session together with other districts this time.

Whereas other schools would begin a new session in April-May every year, the government has already decided to delay it by two months owing to the Covid-19 pandemic-induced disturbances. Now, the schools in mountainous districts including Muku, Kalikot, Humla, Jumla, Dolpa, Manang, and Mustang will also begin the new session then, informs the ministry’s spokesperson Deepak Sharma.

“There was not a situation to begin the new session in February due to the pandemic,” KC says.

Despite the extension, it is still challenging for the schools to complete the course on time as they resumed classes just recently. The government requires a school to teach at least 180 days for a class to complete.
