Chand leader quits party

Netra Bikram Chand-led Nepal Communist Party’s Ramechhap district in-charge Yadav Dhungel has left the party. He has said that he was leaving the party because he wanted to live a peaceful life.  Issuing a press release on Tuesday, he said he was leaving the party. Dhungel, who was involved in the Maoist insurgency from its start, said that he did not like the direction the Chand-led splinter group was heading. He condemned the violent activities done by the Chand outfit and said that he would live his life abiding Nepal’s constitution.

Student union padlocks Purbanchal University’s office

Nepal Student Union has padlocked the offices of Purbanchal University soon after its new Vice-Chancellor Biju Kumar Thapaliya took office. The union has put forward a five-point demand and padlocked the offices of the vice-chancellor. Thapaliya took office on Sunday. The union states that the government’s intervention was killing that university and added that the rules and regulation of the university were being hindered due to it.

Nepal’s U-19 team lose warm-up match

Nepal’s U-19 team have lost their warm-up match against Sri Lanka’s SSC cricket team. SCC’s U-23 team beat Nepal by three wickets in the last over. Batting first Nepal scored a competitive total of 240 in its allotted 42 over. Asif Sheikh top scored with 88 runs. While Sandeep Jora, Rit Gautam and Pawan Saraf all contributed with 33, 31 and 30 runs respectively. Nepal are currently in Sri Lanka to complete in the ACC U-19 Asia Cup starting from September 5.

Kirtipur Municipality asks people not to wear shorts if they want to meet mayor

Kirtipur Municipality has barred people wearing shorts from meeting the mayor and deputy mayor of the municipality. The municipality issued a statement on Monday asking people to dress properly before coming to meet the mayor. The statement says that anyone wanting to meet the mayor or the deputy mayor has to come in a decent getup. It says that shorts were not decent enough for an official meeting. Since the municipality has issued the statement, people have started to dress properly, informed officials at the municipality.

Finance Ministers calls for jailing people involved in revenue leakage

Finance Minister Yuba Raj Khatiwada has said that people who are found guilty of revenue leakage will be jailed. He said that this includes government officials who are involved in revenue leakage. Adding that these type of incidents were done with bad intentions, he said that the people would be fined a hefty amount and would also be put behind bars. However, former finance ministers have said that rather than focusing on punishment, the government should focus of a managed way of revenue collection.

Don’t hire people based on political affiliation, says Govinda KC

Medical education reform activist Govinda KC has called for the universities not to hire officials who have been found guilty by the investigation committee formed by the government. Issuing a release, KC said that universities should hire people based on their qualification and not due to their political affiliation.

KC warned the government that he would start another fast-unto-death if his previous demands were not met. He also asked the government to start medical education at Geta Medical College in Kailali and Rapti Academy of Health Sciences.
