Minister meets banned party’s leader in jail

L-R: Mani Thapa and Hemanta Prakash Oli

Kathmandu, February 2

Water Supply and Sanitation Minister Mani Thapa is in the news again.

Thapa, who had recently referred to the government of Nepal as His Majesty’s Government, on Tuesday morning held a meeting with a senior leader of the banned Nepal Communist Party led by Netra Bikram Chand ‘Biplav’.

Thapa visited the Nakhkhu Jail in Lalitpur to meet Hemanta Prakash Oli aka Sudarshan there. The Lalitpur District Court had sent him to the jail to serve his time in judicial custody in the Ncell central office bombing case in February 2019.

Sources in the jail say Thapa had said he was there to monitor the status of drinking water supply in the jail.

Meanwhile, it has been learned that the government is making efforts to hold talks with the banned party.

The party is banned for the past two years owing to its activities such as explosion, extortion, and murder that amount to terrorism.
