Minister urges recruitment agencies to support foreign employment reforms

Minister Gokarna Bista speaks at a function in Kathmandu, on Tuesday, September 24, 2019.

Kathmandu, September 24

Minister for Labour, Employment and Social Security Gokarna Bista has urged foreign employment recruitment agencies to support the government’s initiatives launched to reform the sector.

Speaking at a function organised in Kathmandu on Tuesday, the minister said the agencies could have their own issues to work for, but they should prioritise concerns of the workers. He clarified that the government would prioritise concerns of the workers over concerns of the agencies.

Bista said the agencies should be responsible for the people they send abroad.

“We are purifying bodies under the ministry. We have adopted a zero tolerance policy on corruption and irregularities,” he said, “Now, the businesspersons should also purify themselves.” He stated that the agencies should change their working style in order to glorify their business.

In another context, minister Bista informed that the government was introducing an online system to process labour permit applications soon.
