Minister for Supplies Shiva Kumar Mandal says he has been unable to take strict actions against traders involved in black marketing for the want of effective laws.

He therefore calls on all stakeholders to contribute to the formulation of a new black marketing law that would ensure strict punishment against consumer-cheating traders.

“Black marketeers get spared easily for the want of laws,” Mandal said speaking with journalists in Biratnagar of Morang district today, “Now, we need to formulate stricter laws to punish them.”

Claiming that the Ministry has already taken initiatives towards this end, he called stakeholders for the support.

Meanwhile, Mandal complained that involvement of multiple government agencies in market monitoring and regulation also created problems.

In another context, he said the government sacked Nepal Oil Corporation Executive Director Gopal Bahadur Khadka as per the law after recommendations from various parliamentary committees.

Khadka was not asked to furnish clarifications to the Ministry as he had presented his statement at the committees’ meetings many times, he added.
