The dam of an under-construction bridge in Kanchanpur has been washed away by a flooded Mahakali river on Saturday night.

A section of the motorable bridge over the river at Odali, Bhimdutta municipality-12 of the district was destroyed, informs DSP Amar Bahadur Thapa, the District Police Office spokesperson. The flooded river had been eroding the dam at the construction site since Friday, according to him.

Meanwhile, the flood has inundated at least eight houses at Kutiyakabar, Shantitole and Baidiphant of Dodhara Chandani municipality-10. Nepal Red Cross Society’s local chapter, in addition, says around 70 households have been affected by the flood although they are not displaced.

Thapa says no human loss has been reported so far. Those affected are taking refuge at their relatives’ houses.

It has been learned the water levels in the river are decreasing since Sunday morning.
