The movement of four-wheeled vehicles across the Sharda Barrage has been suspended after the water flow in the Mahakali River increased. According to police, four-wheeled vehicles have been barred from using the barrage since Tuesday morning after the river flow exceeded the danger level.
Although the water level, which reached 297,000 cusecs on Tuesday, has been gradually declining, the restriction remained in place on Wednesday as it had not fallen below the danger threshold, police said.
DSP Tek Bahadur Rawat of the Kanchanpur District Police Office said the water flow in the Mahakali had dropped to 255,284 cusecs by Wednesday morning.
According to him, four-wheeled vehicles are prohibited from crossing the Sharda Barrage, which connects Kanchanpur with Banbasa in India, when the river flow exceeds 100,000 cusecs.
Police said that as the water level continues to decline, the barrage could be fully reopened by the afternoon if there is no further rainfall in the hilly areas.
