Locked down: Kathmandu airport, streets look deserted as never before

nepal-lockdown-2With the confirmation of the second coronavirus case in Nepal on Monday afternoon, Kathmandu city has fallen silent fearing the infection’s spread.

Tia-Airport-1The government announced to impose a lockdown in the country beginning this morning but Kathmandu looked already deserted since the early afternoon yesterday.

New-Bus-park-6On Friday, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had addressed the nation and announced to close down all non-essential offices and organisations as a preventive measure against the spread of the virus. In his address, he had announced to suspend all international flights as well as long-route buses from Sunday and Monday respectively.

New-Bus-park-7Following which the Tribhuvan International Airport and the Gongabu bus park have emptied.

Tia-Airport-2From Sunday, all the counters in the bus park and taxi stands have also been empty.

Tia-Airport-3People wanting to go outside Kathmandu have been barred from travelling to prevent the virus from spreading like wildfire.

New-Bus-park-4With a confirmation on news of the second virus now, the operation of the Kathmandu airport and all long-route buses have been suspended indefinitely.
