Kathmandu, October 31

The leftist alliance is likely to field senior Maoist leader Ram Bahadur Thapa as the common candidate of CPN-UML and CPN-Maoist Centre in Kathmandu Constituency 10.

Maoist Centre Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal was defeated by Nepali Congress candidate Rajendra Kumar KC in this constituency in the second Constituent Assembly elections in 2013. Dahal, however, had won the first CA polls in 2010.

The Congress is likely to field incumbent Youth and Sports Minister KC against Thapa in the first-past-the-post polls for the House of Representatives.

Thapa had expressed his desire to contest the elections in Chitwan-2. But, after the UML took the constituency to field party’s district chairman Krishna Bhakta Pokharel.

Meanwhile, leaders of the two parties have expedited discussions to finalise the list of their candidates.
