Kathmandu, May 9
Lawmakers have asked the government to clarify its preparedness in response to the potential impact of growing tensions between India and Pakistan on Nepal.
Speaking during Friday’s meeting of the House of Representatives, several lawmakers raised concerns about the possible consequences for Nepal.
Shishir Khanal, a lawmaker from the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), said that the conflict between India and Pakistan could affect supplies and other critical sectors in Nepal.
He questioned, “Whether the government had made any preparations and called for a discussion on the issue.”
Khanal urged the government to inform Parliament accordingly.
Sher Bahadur Kunwar, a lawmaker from the CPN (Unified Socialist), emphasised the need for Nepal to be mindful of the increasing risks faced by Nepali citizens and students residing in India and Pakistan.
Similarly, Saraswati Subba of the CPN-UML highlighted the potential security threats to Nepal due to the open border with India and stressed the need for the government to remain vigilant.
