Nepal registered their first victory in the ICC World T20 Asia qualifiers as they beat Malaysia by 33 runs thanks to spinner Karuna Bhandari’s three-wicket haul and a solid partnership between the opening batters.

Nepali batters put on a total of 108 runs in their allotted 20 overs, and the bowlers limited the Malaysian side to 75 runs, setting up the 33-run victory. Wicketkeeper Jyoti Pandey and opener Sita Rana Magar put on an opening stand of 66 runs.

Sonu Khadka, Nary Thapa, Ritu Kanoujiya and Sita Rana Magar picked up a wicket each.  For Malaysia, it was Nur Natsya and Jannadiah Halim who claimed two wickets each.

With the win, Nepal move up to fourth position in the points table with four points after four matches in the tournament being played in Thailand. Nepal’s chances of qualifying for the World Cup remain slim. The Rhinos play China on Sunday.
