Home minister fails to reach flood-hit site in Baglung

Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa prepares to board a Nepal Army helicopter in Pokhara, on Thursday, September 3, 2020.

Pokhara, September 3

Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa left Kathmandu for Baglung on a Nepal Army helicopter this morning after learning about a flood incident in which at least eight persons died.

Minister Thapa, however, returned to the capital without visiting the site, citing bad weather.

“We had gone there to take stock of the situation, but there was no condition to reach there due to weather,” a lawmaker from Baglung, Devendra Paudel, who had accompanied the minister says, “Then, we returned.”

Upon their failure, officials of the team led by Thapa came back to Pokhara before flying for Kathmandu, according to Kaski Chief District Officer Gyan Prasad Dhakal.

Baglung’s Chief District Officer Suresh Neupane says the water level in the flooded stream has not decreased as the rainfall still continues. Nevertheless, rescue efforts are underway as a team has been mobilised from the early morning, he claims.
