Flights to and from Biratnagar Airport in Morang district are obstructed since floodwater entered the runway on Saturday.
Security personnel have started cleaning the Airport after rainfall stopped on Monday. It is expected that the Airport will be able to operate helicopter flights today itself whereas it will take few more days to resume operation of aeroplanes.
Suresh Man Shrestha, Chief of Biratnagar office of Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal, says the Airport has been officially shut publishing a public notice today whereas further decision will be made after assessing the work progress.
“As of now, it will take next 72 days to bring the Airport back to normalcy.”
Total 150 personnel from Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and Nepali Army have been mobilised in the cleanup. Total four days are needed to complete the task, according to them.
