Heavy rain risk eases in Kathmandu Valley, shifts to Koshi Province

Kathmandu, October 5

Meteorologists have said that rainfall remains likely due to the moisture-laden monsoon winds from the Bay of Bengal.

However, the weather system capable of triggering heavy downpours has weakened in the Kathmandu Valley and has now shifted towards Koshi Province. According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, the threat of heavy rain in Kathmandu has subsided.

“The system has already weakened in Bagmati Province, including Kathmandu Valley, and the risk of heavy rainfall is over,” said senior meteorologist Min Kumar Aryal in an interview with Onlinekhabar.

While rain clouds are still present in Madhesh Province, the possibility of downpours similar to yesterday is lower, he added.

At present, the rainfall system is concentrated in Koshi Province, leading to heavy to very heavy rainfall in several areas from Panchthar, Ilam, and Jhapa to the Terai plains of Chatara. Isolated heavy rainfall is still expected in parts of Ilam and the Terai belt of Koshi Province today, but this too is likely to weaken by afternoon, Aryal said.

In the past 24 hours, many areas of Koshi, Madhesh, and Bagmati provinces have experienced heavy to extremely heavy rainfall. The highest precipitation was recorded at Maheshpur station in Rautahat, measuring 351 millimeters.
