Families of civilians, security personnel killed during Madhesh strife to get million rupees each

Pm-office

Kathmandu, August 18

The government of Nepal has decided to provide families of 52 people, including 10 security personnel, who died in course of the Madhesh Movement, one million rupees each.

It has also formed a commission to probe into incidents that took place during the movement.

Madhesh-centric political parties had launched the movement seeking amendments in the Constitution and redrawing of provincial boundaries, among other issues.

After their districts-centric protests, the parties had launched a Kathmanu-centric movement to press for the fulfillment of these demands. The parties have been demanding that the state declare those people, who died during the movement as martyrs, provide funds for the treatment of those injured in the strife.

It should be noted that a government decision to give five lakh rupees each to disqualified Maoist combatants has been challenged in the Supreme Court.
