Kathmandu, November 19
Four district football associations have demanded that the leadership of All Nepal Football Association carry out an investigation to check if its own officials and staff were involved in a recent visit of four national footballers to a nightclub in Kathmandu.
After Bimal Gharti Magar, Anjan Bista, Santosh Tamang and Dinesh Rajbanshi were found at the club on the eve of their scheduled flight to Bhutan for the FIFA World Cup qualifying match against Kuwait, the national football governing body had removed them from the team on disciplinary grounds.
But, district committees of Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur and Dhading have expressed surprise over why the officials, the coach, managers and other concerned people were not asked anything about the incident. “It hence seems ANFA officials might be involved in the case,” their application to the ANFA president Karma Chhiring Sherpa reads, “ANFA should make its clear opinion public about this issue.”
The committees have also commented that the country lost its opportunity of hosting the game on the home ground due to ANFA’s inability.
