Deuba trying to foil elections through Supreme Court: Ishwar Pokharel

CPN-UML leader Ishwar Pokharel

Kathmandu, October 18

CPN-UML General Secretary Ishwar Pokharel accuses Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba of trying to foil elections by taking other state organs under control and he is trying to manipulate the Supreme Court now.

Speaking at a function organised by his party in Budhanilakantha of Kathmandu today, Pokharel said, “Form the past, Deuba is known as a villainous character who does not want to hold elections. Now also, he is trying to repeat the history. There are doubts on his intention as the Supreme Court is hearing an irrelevant issue.”

Pokharel was referring to a writ filed by Rastriya Janata Party Nepal leader Sarvendra Nath Shukla on which the Court is expected to hand down the final verdict today. Shukla has demanded that four ballot papers be used for proportional representation and first-past-the-post categories in elections for provincial assembly and federal House of Representatives.

It has been remoured that if the Court issues the verdict in Shukla’s favour, the elections will get postponed owing to lack of time for technical preparations.

Therefore, Pokharel today warned that Deuba would see his downfall if the elections were postponed.
