8 complaints filed against 4 Supreme Court justice nominees

Kathmandu, November 1

Eight complaints have been filed against the four individuals nominated for appointment as Supreme Court justices.

The Parliamentary Hearing Committee had invited complaints against the four nominees on October 26. Eight complaints had been registered by last Friday.

The deadline for filing complaints is November 5, and the number may increase before then.

A meeting of the Judicial Council held on October 6 had recommended four High Court judges for appointment to the Supreme Court. They are Ratna Bahadur Bagchand, chief judge of the Pokhara High Court, and High Court judges Chandra Bahadur Saru, Janak Pandey and Gokarna Dangi.

Pandey is a judge at the Hetauda bench of the Patan High Court, while Saru is a judge at the Patan High Court. Dangi previously served as a judge at the Birgunj temporary bench of the Janakpur High Court.

After reviewing the complaints filed against them, the Parliamentary Hearing Committee will hear the work plans of all four nominees.

The nominees will be appointed as Supreme Court justices after approval by the Parliamentary Hearing Committee.
