Despite poll debacle, Naya Shakti renews promise of alternative force

Naya Shakti Party Nepal Chief Baburam Bhattarai speaks at the party’s extended meeting, in Kaski, on Thursday, January 4, 2018.

Kathmandu, January 4

Baburam Bhattarai-led Naya Shakti Party Nepal says it is committed to its journey towards establishing itself as an alternative political force despite the humiliating performance it made during recent provincial and federal parliamentary elections.

A three-day meeting of the party held in Lwang of Kaski district issued a 10-point declaration, renewing the commitment of organising and expanding the party as a strong alternative political force.

The party’s chief Bhattarai says the party will also run multiple socio-political campaigns so as to make the party a strong force in the elections to be held after five years.

The meeting also decided to support or oppose activities of the left alliance, the alliance-led government and to-be main opposition Nepali Congress on the basis of their decisions and performance.

Meanwhile, the party decided to host a Federal Council meeting in the last week of February in order to draft a five-year plan.
