Kathmandu, January 29

The Department of Roads has said it will carry out a study to identify ‘errors’ in Kalanki-Koteshwar section of Kathmandu Ring Road that was recently expanded.

The Chinese government had expanded the road section. It was handed over to the government on Monday.

Though the road looks beautiful and sophisticated, stakeholders and members of the public have said the road was constructed faultily.

“Various issues about the safety of vehicles and passengers have been raised,” DoR Director General Rabindra Shrestha says, “We will consult the Metropolitan Traffic Police Division on how the improvements can be made.”

He also informs that the Department will construct needful infrastructures on the road.

A technical teal will immediately be formed to find out faults to be corrected and its recommendations will be implemented gradually, according to him.

Shrestha assures that zebra crossings will be fixed at various places as the public have been complaining of lack of crossing points along the road. Likewise, a median will be marked at the centre of the road.

Similarly, efforts will be made to restrict the speed limit to 40 km per hour on the road so as to avoid likely traffic accidents, he says, adding, consultations with traffic police are underway to impose the restriction.
