Kathmandu, September 10
The Nepal Army has announced a nationwide curfew, citing the need to safeguard peace and security across the country.
The curfew will remain in effect until 5 p.m. today, and will then be extended from 5 p.m. until 6 a.m. tomorrow, according to a statement issued by the Army.
The Army said unruly groups have been infiltrating protests under the guise of demonstrations, engaging in vandalism, arson, looting, and attacks on both private and public property. It also warned of violent assaults targeting individuals, including attempted rape.
Appealing for cooperation in efforts to control criminal activities, the Army urged all citizens to refrain from unlawful acts. It cautioned that any protests, vandalism, looting, arson, or attacks on people and property carried out in the name of demonstrations would be treated as punishable crimes and met with strict action by security forces.
Essential services, including ambulances, hearses, fire trucks, and vehicles carrying health workers and security personnel, will be allowed to operate during the curfew. Citizens have been requested to coordinate with nearby security personnel for necessary movement.
The Army also called on retired soldiers, security officials, government employees, media personnel, and the public not to follow rumors but to rely only on official information.
It reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining national unity and social harmony while ensuring the continuity of daily life.
