The Ministry of Health says all seven provinces of the country will get their shares of the first lot of Covid-19 vaccines on Sunday.

Most probably, the actual vaccination drive will begin this Wednesday. Around 300 hospitals across the country will be involved in the vaccination campaign. There will be more than 10 vaccination centres in Kathmandu.

The vaccines will be stored at provincial capitals on Sunday and concerned authorities there will distribute them among the districts based on the demand, according to the ministry.

Earlier last week, the government had received one million doses of COVISHIELD vaccines as grant assistance from India. With these, the government plans to vaccinate frontline health workers, ambulance drivers and security personnel in the first phase.

The ministry’s spokesperson Jageshwor Gautam says those receiving the first dose of the vaccines need to take the second dose after four weeks.
