Covid-19 patients clean up Birgunj hospital on their own

Covid-19 patients clean up the isolation ward of Birgunj-based Narayani Hospital, on Saturday, May 23, 2020.

Birgunj, May 24

Complaining that the hospital administration did not clean up the isolation ward they are kept at, some Covid-19 patients have cleaned up the ward at Narayani Hospital in Birgunj on their own.

The hospital has converted a gynaecology ward into the isolation ward and has kept 23 Covid-19 patients there for over one week. The patients say the hospital staff have not visited the ward since their admittance for cleanup and regular checkups.

“We requested the hospital administration to properly clean up the ward, but they did not listen to us,” an infected person says, “Then, we took an initiative on our won. We divided jobs of sweeping, mopping, and washing among us and cleaned up the ward including the passage, bathrooms, and toilets on Saturday.”

Another patient says they resorted to the action after the dirty environment increased the risk of diarrhoea among them.

They hope that their work would put pressure on the hospital administration to improve cleanliness there.
