Man who died last week tests positive for coronavirus today

Kathmandu, May 25

A man who died in a hospital in Birgunj during his treatment against tuberculosis, asthma, and pneumonia last week has tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

The 70-year-old man had died in the course of treatment at the National Medical College Teaching Hospital on May 17. His swab samples were collected before his death and sent to a Birgunj-based lab for the coronavirus test. Later, the doctors suspected the report and sent the samples to Kathmandu for the test again. The test today showed that he had the coronavirus.

The Ministry of Health and Population is yet to announce if the person died of Covid-19.

The hospital has already handed over the deceased’s body to the family, and the family has also carried out the last rites.

Meanwhile, preparations are underway to seal off the hospital after the publication of the report, according to Parsa’s Assistant Chief District Officer Lalit Kumar Basnet.
