Medical officials of Birgunj in Parsa have reported that they do not have sufficient reagents and RNA extraction kits to continue coronavirus tests as the number of infected cases continues to rise.
Consequently, the Narayani Hospital, which conducts Covid-19 tests in the city, has sent around 1,200 swab samples have been sent to Kathmandu for tests. The samples were recently collected from the hospital itself and other health facilities in the district, according to the hospital’s laboratory chief Dr Nira Pathak.
“As the stock of reagents and RNA extraction kits is running out, we also sent the samples on the ambulance that went to the central laboratory in Kathmandu to bring new reagents and kits,” the official informs.
Dr Pathak believes the ambulance will return to Birgunj by the afternoon with the kits.
