The Pashupati Area Development Trust has informed that the number of Indian travellers visiting the Pashupatinath Temple, a popular Hindu shrine in Kathmandu, with the growing number of infections of the novel coronavirus in their country. It has increased the fear of infection among Nepali visitors.

The trust’s member-secretary Ghana Shyam Khatiwada says the number of Nepali visitors, however, has decreased.

“Around 2,000 to 3,000 Indian tourists are visiting Pashupati every day. The number of Nepalis has decreased, but not that of Indians,” Khatiwada says, “Probably because Ram Nawami is coming closer.” Hindus are celebrating the annual Ram Nawami festival on April 2.

Meanwhile, the trust has also launched various programmes to make the visitors aware of prevention measures against the infection, according to Khatiwada.

It is expected that the number of Indian visitors will dwindle soon as the two countries are discussing closing the border points for human movement.
