Constitution amendment bill to be endorsed in a week

Kathmandu, May 26

The House of Representatives is beginning a discussion on the constitution amendment bill on Thursday. The bill is likely to be endorsed by the House in the next week.

Earlier last week, the government had registered the bill in the Federal Parliament Secretariat in order to revise the country’s coat of arms as per the new political map issued recently.

As the secretariat published its tentative agenda for the House meeting today, also listing the tabling of the bill, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli called top leaders of the parties represented in the House soliciting their support to endorse the bill.

Following normal procedures, it will take over a month to endorse a constitution amendment bill. However, if the parties agree, the House itself can suspend some regulations and adopt a fast-track procedure to endorse the bill.

The same applies to the National Assembly also.

House Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota and National Assembly Chairman Ganesh Prasad Timilsina are preparing to suspend the regulations.
