Kathmandu, July 6

The cholera outbreak that is terrorising the Kathmandu and Lalitpur districts has reached their neighbouring districts of Bhaktapur and Makawanpur also.

The Epidemiology and Disease Control Division says one cholera patient has been found in Changunarayan of Bhaktapur and Hetaunda of Makawanpur each.

“The infected person from Changunarayan is undergoing treatment at the Teku Hospital and the other from Hetaunda is at the Birendra Army Hospital,” the division’s Director Dr Chuman Lal Das says, “With this, the number of infected people has reached 21.”

Public health experts are warning that the cholera outbreak is a serious issue and the disease could break into an epidemic.

Officials have already barred vendors from selling food in the open to prevent the spread of the bacteria.
