Kathmandu, June 29

Officials say the number of cholera cases in the Kathmandu valley has hit 14.

The cases are recorded in the past 13 days, informs the Ministry of Health and Population.

The ministry’s spokesperson Dr Sangita Mishra says the cholera-causing E coli bacteria were found in 12 of the 18 samples collected from the Lalitpur district.

Public health experts are warning that this is a serious issue and the disease could break into an epidemic.

Officials have already barred vendors from selling food in the open to prevent the spread of the bacteria.
