China lets Nepali planes access eight more airports

Officials of Nepal and China sign a revised aviation agreement, in Beijing, on Friday, July 26, 2019.

Kathmandu, July 26

Nepal and China have revised a bilateral aviation agreement between them, according to which aircraft from Nepali companies can operate flights to additional eight airports in China.

Earlier, the Nepali planes were allowed to go to seven airports only.

The Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation informs that a bilateral meeting held between officials of the two countries in Beijing on Thursday and Friday decided to revise the agreement.

China has expressed its commitment to let Nepali airline companies choose the new destinations, according to the officials. The national flag carrier Nepal Airlines Corporation and private sector joint venture Himalaya Airlines are awaiting flight approvals from China.

Meanwhile, the revision also increased the number of flights allowed between the countries.

Before the revision, each country could operate maximum 70 flights to another in one week. But now, it has been increased to 98.

However, Chinese aircraft will not be allowed to add flights to Kathmandu. They will deviate their flights to under construction international airports in Bhairahawa and Pokhara once they come into operation.
