Centre sends Rs 20 million to each province for ICUs, ventilators

The Federal Ministry of Health and Population has sent Rs 20 million to each of the seven provinces to purchase and install the equipment required for the operation of intensive care units and ventilators for the treatment of Covid-19 patients.

The ministry’s Chief Expert Dr Roshan Pokharel says the funds have already been allocated to the concerned provincial bodies. Of late, the government is under fire for its failure to manage as many ICUs and ventilators as required to address the crisis.

Speaking in an online meeting of the Education and Health Committee of Parliament on Tuesday, Pokharel informed that government had mobilised highly qualified doctors and health workers in most affected districts.

He also claimed the government was testing 40,000 to 50,000 people in the Kathmandu valley for coronavirus as a part of contact tracing of the already confirmed cases. The ministry has mobilised 1,075 teams across the country for contact tracing, according to
