Police in the Baitadi district of Sudurpaschim have claimed they have arrested a teenage boy on the charge of the rape and murder of 17-year-old Bhagirathi Bhatta in the district earlier this month.

The arrest has been made at a time when many people fear if this crime would also go unsolved for years as the Nirmala Pant rape and murder case from July 2018.

But, the district-based officials claim the suspect, identified as Dinesh Bhatta, nabbed recently has already confessed to the crime, saying he resorted to the murder in an act of vengeance to pacify himself following a family conflict.

The suspect is an 11th grader at Bhagirathi Bhatta’s school as well as her neighbour. Bhagirathi used to study in the 12th grade.

Bhagirathi Bhatta, a resident of Chadepani, Dokdakedar rural municipality-7 of the Baitadi district, had gone missing while returning from school on February 3, and her body was found the next day.
