Kathmandu, September 15

The only road that connects Manang district to the rest of the country has reopened after 17 days of obstruction. The Besisahar-Chame road was obstructed since the last week of August due to a landslide at Myardibhir, Naso rural municipality-1 of Manang.

The landslide had damaged a 120-metre section of the road. Reopening it had taken time as breaking stones was difficult. Subsequently, 80 explosions were carried out to construct an alternative track, according to Suman Adhikari, a sub-engineer at Damauli-based Road Division Office. He informs that the workers could not clear the debris on the existing road.

Meanwhile, the risk of other landslides has troubled the officials.

On the other hand, the construction of a bridge over Myardikhola, bordering Lamjung and Manang district, has not been over, and subsequently, big vehicles have not been able to cross the river, according to Adhikari.
