Beijing says Nepal, India and China should work together

Kathmandu, March 29

The Foreign Affairs Ministry of China says it wants Nepal, India and China to work together for their ‘common development’ as they are good neighbours.

The Ministry’s spokesperson Lu Kang has also appreciated Nepal Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s statement that the Himalayan nation maintains an independent foreign policy, according to media reports.

“We commend the Nepali government’s commitment towards independent foreign policy. We also support Nepal developing friendly and positive relations with its neighbours,” the official today said, “China, Nepal and India are important neighbours to each other. We hope these three could work together, have some sound interactions and achieve common development.”

During his briefing to Kathmandu-based diplomats on Tuesday, Oli had said independent foreign policy and balanced conduct of relations would be the hallmarks of Nepal’s external engagements.
