An official of the constitutional human rights watchdog of the country has said the government should give a clear answer about what it did while investigating into the rape and murder of 13-year-old Nirmala Pant in Kanchanpur of far western Nepal.

As the country is marking the first anniversary of the mysterious crime, National Human Rights Commission member Mohna Ansari says the Commission had directed the government to launch an independent investigation months ago, but the government did not respond to the directive.

Now the Commission will make a follow-up and tells the government to inform about the progress made, Ansari tells Onlinekhabar in an interview.

“The Supreme Court has also directed the government to inform the Commission about the progress. But the government does not communicate,” she says, “We have to tell you very clearly that the government does not take our recommendations seriously.”
