Alleged murderer charters helicopter to report to police in Solukhumbu

Namche Bazaar, the getway to Everest. Solukhumbu District, Nepal.

Solukhumbu, August 9

A man accused of thrashing a domestic worker to death has chartered a helicopter to report to the Solukhumbu District Police Office (DPO).

Kamal Rai of Khumjung in Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality–4, accused of beating Dhan Bahadur BK to death, was arrested on Sunday by the Area Police Office, Namche.

He chartered the chopper to Salleri, the district headquarters, on Tuesday, as it would take three days for him to reach the DPO by other means, informed Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Madhav Budhathoki.

The roads connecting Namche have been made impassable by heavy monsoon downpours.

Meanwhile, BK’s body was also brought to Salleri on the flight. His body has been taken to Phaplu District Hospital for the autopsy.

Rai beat up BK at his home on Friday and later took him for treatment at a local health centre. He died in course of treatment on Saturday.
