Prime Minister Sushila Karki has arrived in Solukhumbu to assess preparations and ground conditions in the Himalayan district ahead of the House of Representatives election scheduled for Falgun 21.
The Prime Minister was accompanied by her Chief Personal Secretary Adarsha Kumar Shrestha and Press Adviser Ram Bahadur Rawal. The team reached Solukhumbu this morning.
Travelling by helicopter, the delegation first landed in Namche before proceeding to the district headquarters, Salleri. Chief District Officer and district security chiefs welcomed the Prime Minister and briefed her on the current situation in the district.
According to Press Adviser Rawal, local officials have informed the Prime Minister that there should be no major obstacles to conducting the election on Falgun 21. “There is no record of snowfall in Falgun in previous years, so officials have indicated that holding the election on that date should not be a problem,” Rawal told Onlinekhabar.
Chief District Officer Lila Kumari KC Pandey said there are 123 polling stations in Solukhumbu district. In the event of snowfall, seven polling stations could be affected, four of which are located above Namche. However, all polling stations are currently operating under normal conditions.
Press Adviser Rawal added that the Prime Minister plans to assess conditions in eastern Himalayan districts today and tomorrow before heading to the western region.
