Film halls postpone Adipurush, to make decision on its future today

Adipurush

Kathmandu, June 16

Nepal Motion Picture Association has asked all film halls in Kathmandu not to screen the South Indian film Adipurush for the time being.

The film has been mired in controversy as it states Sita, daughter of King Janak, was born in India. Kathmandu’s mayor, Balen Shah, in a Facebook post, said he will not allow the film to screen in Kathmandu and has given the filmmakers three days to correct the statement made in the film.

“No Indian film will be allowed to be screened if the statement is not corrected,” he said in the post.

Multiplexes including QFX, INI, Big Movies, and One Cinemas have postponed the morning show.

The umbrella organisation of film halls sent a circular to all the halls across the country instructing them to stop the morning show of Adipurush.

Many halls decided to stop the screening citing security risk. Around 6,000 tickets were sold for the morning shows.

To address the issues, the association has called a meeting. The final decision of if the film will be screed will be taken in the meeting.

Indian media outlets, however, report the film is planning to remove the controversial statement.
