Acharya, Khanal to leave party if Sajha merges with Bibeksheel

Pokhara, July 12

The Gandaki provincial coordinator of Sajha Party says his party is merging with Bibeksheel Nepali Party once again.

However, two central leaders of the party–Surya Raj Acharya and Muma Ram Khanal–prepare to leave the party if the merger happens.

Mahesh Bhandari, the provincial coordinator as well as a central member of the party, says, “The broad gathering of the party held Lumbini in February this year had decided to merge with the like-minded parties. But, they [Acharya and Khanal] had different opinions regarding this since then.”

A meeting of the party secretariat on Saturday decided to officially launch efforts for the merger, according to him.

Meanwhile, Khanal says he and Acharya had different opinions about the party functioning for the past one-and-a-half years as the leadership tried to make it similar to the Nepal Communist Party or Nepali Congress.

The two parties had merged as Bibeksheel Sajha Party in the run-up to the 2017 parliamentary elections. However, they had split in early January 2019.
