NCP ministers prepare to resign from Madhesh government amid new political alliance talks

Janakpurdham, November 6

Ministers from the Nepali Communist Party (NCP) are preparing to resign from the Madhesh provincial government as a new political alliance takes shape in the province.

According to a provincial assembly member, the NCP parliamentary party held a virtual meeting. The meeting, held following instructions from party chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, decided to withdraw from the government.

The party’s four ministers are preparing to submit their resignation letters to the Madhesh provincial government shortly. The NCP has four ministers in the provincial cabinet.

They are Economic Affairs Minister and parliamentary party leader Yubaraj Bhattarai, Industry and Tourism Minister Kanish Patel, Home, Communications and Law Minister Fakira Mahato, and Energy, Irrigation and Water Supply Minister Jawahar Kushwaha.

The provincial government has been in the minority since the CPN-UML withdrew from it on October 16. However, the NCP had continued to support the government led by Nepali Congress Chief Minister Krishna Prasad Yadav.

The Madhesh government now has only eight days left to seek a vote of confidence.

The CPN-UML has claimed that a new political alliance involving the Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) and the NCP has been formed in Madhesh.

CPN-UML parliamentary party leader Saroj Kumar Yadav told Onlinekhabar that the leaders of the three parties had reached an agreement on a new alliance after holding talks at the central level.

However, JSP Nepal central chair Upendra Yadav has disputed the claim, saying in a social media post that it is not true. Nevertheless, there are also claims that an alliance has taken shape within the JSP.
